CRESCINA

Labo Cosprophar laboratories in 1991 created Crescina, a complex of amino acids, Cysteine and Lysine, blended into an anti-hair loss preparation, also able to encourage hair growth by activating hair bulbs that are still alive.

In 1998 the discovery acquired a solid dimension when the combination of amino acids, Cysteine and Lysine, was added to a Glycoprotein able to promote cell metabolism in bulbs that are still active, increasing the process of protein synthesis, that is to say the production of keratin that leads to hair growth.

In 1998 Crescina, an outstanding avant-garde product, was registered with a Swiss patent: this was not just another hair loss preparation like so many others, but a product capable of supporting the natural growth of hair in thinned areas, formulated in different dosages to deal with various levels of thinning, applying the scientifically acquired classification of the phenomenon, which uses the Hamilton scale for men and the Ludwig scale for women.

Crescina is a product available in vials for external cosmetic use. It will have no effect on totally atrophied hair follicles.

 

 

 

 

 

The Formula

Crescina helps natural hair growth thanks to the synergic action of its components.

The Crescina formula consists of a dilution in a suitable hydroalcoholic agent, of a series of functional substances, each typified by its own individual function and activity, all of them contributing to rendering the product effective.

The hydroalcoholic agent combined with manual massage during topical application of Crescina helps these functional substances to be distributed over the scalp and gently enhance blood supply to reach the hair bulb, which is more receptive to being penetrated by the substances.

The core ingredient of Crescina Re-Growth is a combination of two amino acids, Cysteine and Lysine, which are basic components of hair keratin, and a special growth factor called Glycoprotein, which is able to promote cell activity (in vitro test) in the bulb cell to promote protein synthesis, especially of keratin, which is the basic protein found in hair.

An oxygraphy experiment performed on cells in vitro demonstrated how Crescina's glycoprotein is able to promote a 220% increase in oxygen consumption in tested cells compared to their base values. The amount of intracellular oxygen consumption is an important parameter for evaluating promoting effect on cell activity.

Cysteine is the amino acid present in largest quantities in hair. Growth rate, protein synthesis and hair fibre diameter depend on the availability of cysteine (Exp. Dermat., 1999, Matheson et al).Tests performed in vitro show that a drop in cysteine concentration in hair follicles cultivated in vitro leads to a dose-dependent decrease, both in the growth rate and in the diameter of the fibre produced. Its presence is fundamental because during the keratinisation process two cysteine residues form a cysteine molecule through the creation of a disulphide bond. These chemical bonds are at the root of the keratin's structural stability and consequently the hair shaft's mechanical stability.

Eight amino acids are essential for life: that is to say they must be available in the diet since the organism is not capable of synthesizing them. If even a single amino acid is lacking in diet, the organism is forced to break down some of its proteins.
Lysine is an essential amino acid. It is part of all protein structures and it encourages growth, tissue repair and production of antibodies, hormones, enzymes. In hair keratin it is mainly localized in the protein of the root’s inner shaft which is a very important structure since its function is to give shape and body to the hair. The proteins in the root inner sheath and in the hair medulla are stabilized by crucial bonds between glutamine and lysine, which are responsible for making these proteins extremely resistant to chemical and enzymatic attack (Molec. Cell. Bioch., 1984, Peterson et al.).
Together with the two amino acids Cysteine and Lysine, Glycoprotein constitutes what is defined the “core” of Crescina. The effect of the alcohol and the reddening substance, as described later, allow the glycoprotein to permeate the scalp and this has a promoting effect on the activity of hair bulb cells in the growth phase. There is also encouragement of the use of amino acids supplied for protein synthesis, and therefore for the production hair keratin. This particular synergy means that Crescina develops its adjuvant action for natural hair growth in a complete way.

Growth of hair require sufficient nutritional contribution to hair follicles.
It was demonstrated in male subjects with early hair loss that subcutaneous blood flow was 2.6 times slower than in normal subjects (J. Invest.Dermatol, 1989, Klemp P. et al).
A significant reduction in subcutaneous scalp microcirculation in male subjects presenting early significant thinning may explain hair loss and subsequent failure of the hair to grow back.
A temporary superficial microcirculation increase in scalp sub-epidermis microcirculation blood flow, brought about with substances that have enhancing and rubefacient effects, encourages trophism in the hair follicle, which also encourages the penetration of any other components that may be present.
Local application of benzyl nicotinate will cause dilation of the hair vessels on the skin that is being considered and this leads to increased superficial microcirculation in situ.

Crescina Re-Growth formula is completed by silicon and zinc, which are fundamental elements for follicle functioning and hair growth processes.

 

 
 

 

Preparations

Crescina Re-Growth products in vials are preparations for topical cosmetic use, formulated for thinning hair using differentiated doses of Cysteine, Lysine, Glycoprotein and Benzyl Nicotinate, depending on the thinning, which can be ascertained using the Hamilton/Labo scale for men and the Ludwig/Labo scale for women.

Application

Recommended period of application for Crescina Re-Growth products in vials is two months.

Vials are applied on alternate days, on clean dry scalp, gently massaging lotion so it penetrates.

 

 

 

CRESCINA PATENTS

The Swiss Patent

Crescina invention patents are approved by the Swiss Confederation’s Federal Institute of Intellectual Property and registered at the number CH 689 821 A5.
The contents of the patent were developed from an application (no. 1330/98) presented on 22 June 1998 and this was successfully concluded with issue and publication of Crescina invention patent deeds on 15 December 1999.

The USA Patent

Crescina was recognised by the American authorities with the patent registered as number US 6,479,059 B2, dated 12 November 2002. It is no secret that acquiring acknowledgement of inventions in the United States of America is more protracted and complex. Actually, the company had made its first application of international PCT registration in all the states of the PCT convention on 14 June 1999, followed by investigation by the competent international organization of any previous applications referred to the request for an international patent for Crescina. After the required international preliminaries were completed (PCT and Europe), Labo forwarded its application for a USA patent on 18.12.2000, registered as no. 09/738,345, conceded on 12 November 2002.

The European Patent

Crescina's patent was registered at number EP 1 089 704 B1. Crescina’s European patent as a “cosmetic product for the reactivation of physiological hair growth in areas affected by thinning where follicles are not yet totally atrophied”, emerged from the application deposited on 21.06.1999, followed by the relevant examination report issued by the European Patents office located in Munich. After being successfully examined, notification of the concession of application was issued by the Patents Office on 21 May 2003, and subsequently the patent was published on 11.02.2004.
